Winter park

The first areas for skiing in Colorado, now is Winter Park was known as the West Portal in the 1920s. After construction of the Moffat railroad tunnel, ski trains began bringing winter sport enthusiasts from Denver to the western slope and the West Portal and its new ski jump and trails. In 1939 it was renamed Winter Park and a J-bar tow went into operation. Winter Park also owns and operates Ruby Hill Rail Yard, a small, free terrain park in Denver that is open through the winter. This is the winter ski park.
